The University of Seville (US) has 25 faculties and centres (4.197 lecturers and researchers, distributed in 123 university departments). In 2006-2007, US offered 24 diplomas of short cycle, 34 long cycle, 10 second cycle, 18 postgraduate master programmes, 124 doctoral programmes and 288 university graduate studies.
In 2006 there were 57.687 students enrolled, distributed in the following levels: first and second level: 57.688; third level: 2.912; oficial Postgraduate: 420; other Postgraduate and other studies: 3.842; Institute of Languages: 3.333. The student distribution by age reflects a low number of students above 30 years (8%).
Recently, the US has been awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education, through competition, the High Tech Campus of Excellence. In 2010 the US was nominated the best University in Spain for the Erasmus Programme (among 81 universities competing).
Students´ drop-out rate in US is around 17%, with a gender bias with higher dropouts among female students.
In the last few years the US has been developing several programmes especifically designed to target groups of non-traditional students (women, disabled students, migrants and ethnic minorities). Special policies are now being developed to tackle the issues of drop out and underachievement in support of students with more difficulties to complete their university degrees. US has been a member of the
European funded project RANLHE (814.000).
US brings into the INSTALL project the relevance of its policies and teaching methods in the area of disadvantaged students, where is recognised internationally as a lead research centre.
